There are luxury high-performance sports cars such as Ferrari, Porsche or BMW, and then there are the mind-boggling pieces of futuristic engineering.
This category of sports cars is not for attention seeker to cruise around the Riviera or toys for the faint hearted, but rather multi-million dollar pieces of artistic engineering precision designed and made for speed enthusiasts to enjoy on private race tracks and collect in gilded garages.
The most notable of the category is the German produced Mayback Excelero which was commissioned as a one-off by tire mogul Arnaud Massartic in 2005 costing $8m. The Lamborghini Veno is based on the Aventador LP700-4 and is available to order as part of Lamborghini’s 50th birthday this May. Only three of these cars will ever be made so part of the high price is based on exclusivity.
The other parts are the workmanship and speed. Made in Italy it has 759 hp, a 6.5 liter, 12-cylinder engine that reaches 0-62 in 2.0 seconds. It has a top speed of 220 mph.
